Our Inaugural Book Club

In case you missed the news, Not Alone Notes has started a mental health book club, called Shelf Help!

For many people, OCD latches onto and affects their ability to read, sometimes when reading for fun, school, work, or all of the above.

The goal of this book club can be about facing down reading OCD, but more so it is about building a community among readers with OCD.

The plan is to meet somewhere between 2-4 times a year. It’s a low pressure book club. Even if you haven’t finished the book, you are welcome to join our discussions!

We will be reading various titles, related to mental health, but not always specific to OCD. Books can range from novels to memoirs to poetry and more!

After asking our Instagram for title recommendations, one came up multiple times. Our inaugural book is: Because We Are Bad: OCD and a Girl Lost in Thought, by Lily Bailey.

We will hold our virtual discussion over Google Meet this Saturday, June 21 at 2pm central time (3pm eastern time). Here is the meeting link. Again, even if you haven’t finished the book, you are welcome to attend.

We also have two ongoing, virtual discussion spaces. Participate in as many or as few formats as you like. We’d love to hear your thoughts and reflections!

We hope you will join our book club!

And if you can’t make this one, we already have our next title picked out: The Color of Sound, by Emily Barth Isler. Emily is the Keynote speaker at the upcoming Annual OCD Conference in Chicago.

We will discuss The Color of Sound on Saturday, September 20 at 2pm central time (3pm eastern time). AND THE AUTHOR EMILY WILL BE THERE TO DISCUSS WITH US! Exciting times ahead.
