NAMI Westchester’s 40th Anniversary Gala

Last month I attended NAMI Westchester’s 40th Anniversary Gala. The Gala celebrated NAMI Westchester’s success over the past 40 years as well as honored volunteers in the mental health community. Marie Considine, the executive director of NAMI Westchester, reached out to us at the end of 2023 to ask if we would be willing to write notes for every dinner seat. Eager to take on the challenge of writing and making over 300 notes, our team took on the task. We ended up making a total of over 400 notes!

Attending the event was a huge exposure for me. I was going alone, knowing that other people attending would most likely be attending with at least one other person. I tried to not let my social anxiety get the best of me, and made an effort to meet new people. When I first arrived, the cocktail hour was happening, and I walked up to a random table and introduced myself.

When it was time for the dinner, it was so wonderful walking into the dining room and seeing all of the notes we had made displayed at every table seating, right next to the fancy appetizer. The feedback we have received about everyone opening their notes has been wonderful! Since the event, some attendees have mentioned that their note is on their desk at work as a sign of encouragement.
